Electric Vauxhall Corsa and Astra prices slashed for second time this year
A fresh pricing structure for the electric Vauxhall Corsa and Astra sees prices fall by up to £4,765
- Top-spec Corsa Electric now £4,150 cheaper
- Astra Electric models up to £4,765 cheaper
- All models available to order now
Prices for the Vauxhall Corsa Electric and Astra Electric have been revised for the second time this year, with some models seeing their list price drop by up to £4,765. The move comes as the marque aims to make “electric mobility more attainable for all” and prepares to offer an electric version of all its cars and vans by the end of 2024.
Which Vauxhall Corsa Electric models are cheaper?
February 2024 saw the introduction of the Corsa Electric Yes! Edition, which lowered the barrier to entry by a whopping £5,550 to £26,895. The new round of price cuts hasn’t affected this entry-level model, but higher trim levels have received some healthy discounts instead.
The Corsa Electric in Design trim, which sits above the Yes! Edition, is now priced from £29,045, representing a saving of £3,400. GS and Ultimate models are cheaper now, too, with price cuts of £2,850 and £4,150, respectively.
The Corsa Electric Long Range is now cheaper as well, thanks to the option of Design trim for the first time. This has effectively cut its starting price to £30,440, while GS and Ultimate models get the same price cuts as the standard Corsa Electric above. Long Range models get an upgraded 51kWh battery in place of the standard car’s 50kWh unit, upping range from 222 miles to 246 miles.
Which Vauxhall Astra Electric models are cheaper?
The Astra Electric was made cheaper earlier this year with the introduction of the £34,995 Griffin trim level. That entry-level model has now been undercut (just) by a discounted Design trim, which is now priced from £34,945 – £2,850 less than before. Prices of GS and Ultimate models have been slashed by £2,905 and £3,865, respectively.
The biggest savings of all have been reserved for the Vauxhall Astra Sports Tourer Electric, the family-friendly estate variant. The Griffin trim level is now priced from £36,195 (a £1,000 discount), although the Design model is now even cheaper than this, at £36,145. GS models have received a £3,905 cut, while a whopping £4,765 has been slashed from the range-topping Astra Sports Tourer Electric Ultimate – this now costs £40,695.
What does this mean for car buyers?
While that’s all a bit confusing, the price cuts are a welcome incentive to get customers behind the wheel of an electric Vauxhall, and all but one model now fall under the £40,000 luxury car tax threshold.
For Corsa Electric customers, we still think that the cheapest Yes! Edition model offers the best value for money, despite the savings on higher trim levels. The Astra Electric Design may now be £50 cheaper than the Griffin model, but the latter still offers better value for money in our eyes. It gets more equipment, including heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, wireless smartphone charging, 180-degree parking camera and front and rear parking sensors – worth paying an extra £50 for.
What’s most interesting is that even the cheapest Corsa Electric and Astra Electric models are still more expensive than the upcoming Vauxhall Frontera. The electric small SUV has been confirmed to cost from £23,495 – so it may be worth waiting for this model to hit showrooms later this year.
