Owners are a satisfied bunch, and Lexus NX safety should be first-rate, too
Lexus has a consistently strong reputation for both its cars' reliability and the quality of its dealers' service, regularly topping satisfaction surveys. With the Lexus Safety System standard across the range, the NX promises to be very safe, too.
Lexus NX reliability
The Lexus NX was rated highly for reliability in our 2020 Driver Power owner satisfaction survey of cars currently on sale in the UK and just 11.5% of owners reported one or more faults in the first year of ownership. The NX finished 42nd out of the top 75 cars surveyed, and came close to the top of the charts for build quality. Owners love its styling and the way it drives, although running costs could be lower and it scored poorly for its infotainment setup.
Lexus itself, meanwhile, was the overall winner in our 2019 survey, outperforming 29 other brands for owner satisfaction. Only its infotainment systems – which are regarded as fiddly to use – let the brand's overall performance down.
Safety
The Lexus NX received the maximum five-star mark when crash-tested by safety body Euro NCAP. It was awarded 82% for both adult and child occupant protection, 69% for pedestrian protection and 71% for safety assistance. The car features a stiff bodyshell and a wealth of safety systems, including eight airbags, surround-view cameras, blind-spot and lane-departure warning, plus automatic emergency braking. The NX also comes with adaptive cruise control as standard, but you'll need the pricey Premier model to benefit from the most advanced safety technology.
