At a special event held in Los Angeles, Polestar has finally revealed the exterior of their new electric luxury GT, the Polestar 5. Following on from the success of their electric hatchback, the Polestar 2, and recently released Polestar 3 SUV, the 5 aims to lure buyers away from similar four-door luxury electric cars, such as the Porsche Taycan, Tesla Model S and Lotus Emeya.
Upon first glance, the Polestar 5 has the typical long wheelbase and sloping roofline that we’ve come to expect from this segment of luxury car, but it's in the details where the 5 stands apart. Polestar hasn't deviated far from the original Precept Concept, revealed back in 2020, with the split-element ‘Thor’s Hammer’ headlights and rear light bar appearing practically identical. A glass roof spans from windshield to boot-lid, much like that seen on the aforementioned Model S, and a strong shoulder crease provides definition to the side-profile.
Although Polestar is yet to reveal the 5’s interior, we can assume it will be similar to that seen in their other models. Expect a large, central touchscreen infotainment screen and a choice of sustainable materials.
Under its white paintwork lies a bespoke, bonded aluminium chassis and an 800V electric architecture, powering two motors. Polestar claims figures of 874bhp and 900Nm of torque, enough to rival the top-spec Taycan Turbo S as well as Lotus’s upcoming Emeya luxury 4-door.
Polestar, in partnership with StoreDot, is developing an advanced battery technology that should bring significant performance advantages, including the capability to add 100 miles of range with just a five-minute charge. Whilst it is predicted to remain in testing for the next few years, Polestar says the 5 may feature this technology later in its model lifecycle.
