Look out, Tesla – XPeng G6 electric SUV is heading to the UK
Chinese firm XPeng is gearing up for the UK launch of its Tesla Model Y rival, the G6
- XPeng preparing for UK debut
- G6 SUV arriving in early 2025
- More electric models to follow
Electric car buyers in the UK will soon have one more model to weigh up, as Chinese brand XPeng gets ready to make its debut on our shores. That’s right – another fresh-faced EV brand is preparing to take on Tesla and its best-selling Model Y with a new mid-size SUV. The XPeng G6 is the model in question, leading the charge as the brand expands into wider European markets.
Who is XPeng and what is the XPeng G6?
We don’t blame you if you haven’t heard of XPeng before. The electric car maker only started building its first model in 2018, but it’s since hit the ground running in its home market. There are no less than six XPeng models currently on sale across the world, ranging from sleek saloon cars to luxurious people-carriers.
The only model we’ll be getting is the XPeng G6 – for now, at least. The electric mid-size SUV is similar in size to the Tesla Model Y, offering seating for five under its swoopy roof. It’s been on sale in China for over a year, where it’s offered with a choice of two battery sizes. We expect both 66kWh and 88kWh models to be sold here, with up to 354 miles of range possible in the latter. That’s not too far off the new Tesla Model Y Long Range.
The G6’s performance should be in the same ballpark as the Model Y, too. The priciest dual-motor version will sprint from 0-62mph in under four seconds, which is plenty quick enough to worry today’s sports cars. Charging is equally speedy – a 10 to 80% top up should take around 20 minutes using a rapid charger.
When will the XPeng G6 go on sale and how much will it cost?
So far, XPeng has confirmed that the G6 will launch over here in “early 2025”. The cars will be distributed by International Motors, rather than through dedicated XPeng dealerships, but pricing is still unknown at the moment.
