If you know only one thing about the Skoda Superb, it’s probably that it offers masses of space for the money. That’s only become a stronger trait over the generations, and isn’t one that Skoda is likely to veer away from anytime soon.

It means that even with a tall driver at the wheel, there’s so much space behind the front seats that passengers can relax and stretch out in comfort. Headroom isn’t an issue as a result, and if you’d like to give your family the VIP treatment, the Superb is an excellent pick.

Skoda has also become known for its ‘Simply Clever’ features to make life easier, and the latest Superb has no less than 28 of them according to the Czech brand. They include everything from a handy umbrella tucked inside the driver’s door, to an ice scraper, a tablet holder in the rear armrest and a cooled wireless charging pad to keep your smartphone from overheating.

Does the Skoda Superb have a big boot?

It certainly does, because even the smaller Superb Hatchback boasts a 645-litre boot, putting it right at the top of the executive car class. It’s a 20-litre gain on the outgoing model, but it’s not perfect, because there’s quite a significant loading lip to haul heavy items over. Of course, if you need an even bigger boot, there's the Skoda Superb Estate.

Is the Skoda Superb a good tow car?

Previous generations of the Skoda Superb have won awards for their towing ability, and the latest model also performs well here. Even the 1.5-litre petrol version is rated to tow up to 1,600kg (12% gradient), which increases to two tonnes for the 2.0-litre 148bhp diesel.

If you need to haul a really big caravan or trailer, though, the flagship diesel with 190bhp and four-wheel drive can tow up to 2,200kg. That’s more than pretty much all of its rivals, including the BMW 5 Series and Peugeot 508.
