Vauxhall Frontera review - Reliability & safety

“It’s too early to ascertain the reliability and safety of the Frontera, but safety tech is generous for the price”

The Vauxhall Frontera itself is too new to have featured in the Driver Power customer satisfaction survey, as is the closely related Citroen C3 and e-C3, but Vauxhall as a brand came in a poor 26th place out of 32 manufacturers in 2024.

Buyers have been disappointed by the practicality and interiors offered in the brand’s cars, as well as its overall quality, but at least rate its low running costs positively. Encouragingly, however, reliability is a little better than average, with 21% of owners reporting an issue with their Vauxhall in the first year. Vauxhall shares its engines and lots of its tech with sister brands Citroen, Peugeot and Fiat, all of which also have lower-than-average fault rates.

How safe is the Vauxhall Frontera?

The Vauxhall Frontera is yet to be tested by Euro NCAP, so it’s too early to judge how safe it is, but while it’s a budget-friendly model, there’s a healthy amount of safety assistance tech thrown in as standard so it stands in good stead. Design models get rear parking sensors, cruise control, lane-keep assist, autonomous emergency braking, collision warning, traffic sign recognition, driver attention alert and a speed-limit indicator. The only things you miss if you stick to Design over GS are front parking sensors and blind-spot monitoring.

What are the Vauxhall Frontera service intervals?

Vauxhall tends to recommend getting its cars serviced every 12,000 miles or 12 months, whichever comes first. Vauxhall doesn’t specify whether these intervals differ between the Hybrid and Electric models, but it’s worth asking your dealer if you’re interested in the Vauxhall Frontera.

What is the warranty on the Vauxhall Frontera?

Vauxhall’s warranty covers you for up to three years, with the mileage unlimited for the first year, and limited to 60,000 miles in the second and third years. That’s not particularly competitive in the current market, and even budget brands like Dacia offer up to seven years/75,000 miles of cover so long as you get your car annually serviced by an official Dacia dealer.
